The Eye Care Department at the South Boston Community Health Center provides eye care to children and adults of all ages. Regular eye exams are one of the most important things you can do for your vision and your overall health. Eye exams can help detect cataracts, glaucoma and retinal disease, as well as diabetes and high-blood pressure. It is important for children to be examined early and often to prevent the development of strabismus (an eye turn or lazy eye) and amblyopia (decrease in vision, not corrected by glasses). A proper eyeglass prescription can help improve the quality and function of your life.
Contact Lens Services
The SBCHC eye clinic provides contact lens fittings, follow-up, and training on how to use and care for lenses. We fit soft and RGP (hard) lenses, farsighted and nearsighted corrections, bifocal contact lenses and lenses that correct for astigmatism.
