Well over 300 people flowed into the Plaza Ballroom at the Seaport Hotel to support South Boston Community Health Center's 15th Annual Auction & Cocktail Reception on October 20th. It was a wonderful evening honoring Governor Charlie Baker and Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans. Underwritten by Cargo Ventures and with the generous support of Eaton Apothecary, and Boston Medical Center/BMC HealthNet Plan, the annual event has become a favorite of both the neighborhood and the Boston business community.
This year's event featured wonderful live auction items with historic bids. Lunch with Mayor Martin Walsh at the Parkman House cooked by Chef Barbara Lynch was sold to one generous bidder for $15,000 - breaking all records for the live auction! Following a close second was coffee with Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karen Polito which sold for a whopping $14,000. Mike Wankum from WCVB in Boston served as an outstanding MC and auctioneer; and Kevin Tyo and Marcella Sliney did a remarkable job in co-chairing the event.
Proceeds from the yearly auction provide vital support for a wide range of programs and services at the health center. Over the years, services have expanded to include digital mammography, a food pantry where we serve over 400 families a month, and addiction prevention & treatment. The support of our friends in the health care, business and labor communities helps us greatly in responding to the needs of the people we serve.
Thanks to all who helped make this year's auction a wonderful success!
