Job Summary
South Boston Community Health Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Assistant Manager to oversee and support the medical assistants providing care in primary care, medical specialties, and urgent care departments. The Medical Assistant Manager will be responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, managing daily operations, and supervising medical assistants to maintain efficient, patient-centered care. This position requires someone with a strong clinical background, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for supporting the healthcare team in delivering exceptional outpatient services.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a medical assistant, LPN, or RN, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
- Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or outpatient medical setting is highly preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and medical office software.
- Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care protocols.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN) is required.
- CPR certification is required.

- Must be able to perform routine clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, and assisting with medical procedures.
Representative Job Duties
- Supervise and manage the daily activities of the medical assistants working in both primary care and urgent care settings.
- Work with working with nursing practice managers to ensure adequate staffing across departments and sites
- Ensure that medical assistants are providing high-quality, patient-centered care according to established protocols and standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and support the professional development of medical assistants.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth patient flow and optimize team performance.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and orientation of new medical assistant staff.
- Coordinate and facilitate staff meetings and educational opportunities to ensure the team stays current with best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies, equipment, and other resources necessary for the medical assistant team.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and other safety and quality standards.
- Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
- Address and resolve patient concerns or issues related to medical assistant services.
- Provide direct patient care as needed, including taking vital signs, assisting with exams, and supporting patient education under the direction of medical staff.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and monitor key performance metrics for the medical assistant team.
