Job Summary
The Urgent Care Nurse provides timely, high-quality clinical care to patients with non-life-threatening conditions in a fast-paced urgent care setting within South Boston Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The nurse collaborates with the care team to ensure efficient patient flow, clinical accuracy, and adherence to FQHC mission-driven standards focused on health equity, accessibility, and comprehensive care.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Active RN license in good standing.
- Current BLS certification, ACLS/PALS preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience (urgent care, ER, or ambulatory care preferred).
- Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, or similar setting.
- Bilingual in Spanish, Creole or Albanian highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (e.g. EPIC)
- Strong clinical assessment and triage skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Commitment to health equity and serving underserved populations.
- Knowledge of public health, social determinants of health, and population-based care.
Representative Job Duties
- Triage patients on arrival, assess acuity, and prioritize care appropriately.
- Perform clinical duties including taking vital signs, administering medications, wound care, immunizations, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and assisting with procedures.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Support providers with exams, treatments, and procedures as needed.
- Provide patient education and discharge instructions, reinforcing treatment plans and follow-up recommendations.
- Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent patient conditions, escalating to the provider or emergency services as necessary.
- Maintain infection control and safety standards in compliance with OSHA, CDC, and internal protocols.
- Support a team-based approach to care, working collaboratively with medical assistants, providers, behavioral health, and other staff.
