Urgent Care Registered Nurse

Job Summary

The Urgent Care Nurse provides timely, high-quality clinical care to patients with non-life-threatening conditions in a fast-paced urgent care setting within South Boston Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The nurse collaborates with the care team to ensure efficient patient flow, clinical accuracy, and adherence to FQHC mission-driven standards focused on health equity, accessibility, and comprehensive care.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Active RN license in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification, ACLS/PALS preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience (urgent care, ER, or ambulatory care preferred).
  • Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, or similar setting.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Creole or Albanian highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (e.g. EPIC)
  • Strong clinical assessment and triage skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to health equity and serving underserved populations.
  • Knowledge of public health, social determinants of health, and population-based care.

Representative Job Duties

  • Triage patients on arrival, assess acuity, and prioritize care appropriately.
  • Perform clinical duties including taking vital signs, administering medications, wound care, immunizations, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and assisting with procedures.
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Support providers with exams, treatments, and procedures as needed.
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions, reinforcing treatment plans and follow-up recommendations.
  • Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent patient conditions, escalating to the provider or emergency services as necessary.
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards in compliance with OSHA, CDC, and internal protocols.
  • Support a team-based approach to care, working collaboratively with medical assistants, providers, behavioral health, and other staff.
