Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout SBCHC facilities to support patient care and daily operations. This role performs custodial services, light maintenance, and facility support duties with limited supervision. A strong custodian at SBCHC is reliable, proactive, and team-oriented, taking pride in their work and contributing to a welcoming and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Schedule & Openings
We currently have two (2) full-time Custodian openings with the following schedules:
- Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in custodial, facilities, or maintenance work preferred
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work independently and take initiative while also functioning as part of a team
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and work ethic
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Basic understanding of cleaning equipment and safe handling of supplies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a healthcare, community health, or similar setting
- Experience working in fast-paced or high-traffic environments
- Familiarity with safety, infection control, and sanitation standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the workday
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, if required
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Representative Job Duties
- Sanitize, wash, and clean lavatories and restroom areas
- Sweep and wash staircases
- Remove trash daily before clinics open
- Vacuum all carpeted areas daily, both before clinic hours and during clinic operations
- Dry and damp mop tile floors daily; spray-buff tile floors weekly
- Clean glass doors, hand marks, soiled walls, windowsills, and ledges as needed
- Clean exterior areas around the health center, including parking lots, back lots, and building entrances daily
- Remove snow, sand, and salt from walkways to ensure safe passage as needed
- Perform light maintenance tasks such as small repairs, painting, furniture assembly, and moving furniture
- Safely store and maintain custodial equipment and supplies
- Follow written and verbal instructions and carry out tasks with limited supervision
- Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a team-oriented spirit in daily work
- Comply with all organizational, state, and federal safety and sanitation regulations
- Participate in required trainings and staff meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Competitive benefits package. $22.78 - $27.20 per hour. Generous tuition assistance after 1 year of service.
