About South Boston Community Health Center

The South Boston Community Health Center is a full-service health care facility that has been serving the South Boston community since 1972.

With a staff of over 150, the Health Center provides over 70,000 service visits a year to almost half of South Boston’s population. We currently provide these services from a two building, modern facility in the heart of the neighborhood and a satellite site in South Boston's emerging Seaport district.

The South Boston Community Health Center is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, governed by a community-based board of directors. The mission of the Health Center is to provide health care to the entire community while ensuring care to those most in need. Our governing principle is "all who seek care are welcome here."

Our services include Adult Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Behavioral Health, Dental, Eye, Radiology, Mammography, Pharmacy and specialty services that include Podiatry, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, OB/GYN and Sports Medicine.

The Health Center is associated with the best hospitals in the world, with Boston Medical Center being our primary affiliation. We are also affiliated with Mass General Brigham (Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and Tufts Medical Center.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality care to all patients, regardless of status and ability to pay.

The South Boston Community Health Center seeks to meet the health care needs of our community by delivering consistently high-quality care - with a special emphasis on Primary and Preventive care. We seek to be a leader within the community on health issues, both listening and teaching with respect, compassion and clinical expertise and will always be particularly mindful of the most vulnerable population.

“We are an elderly couple who have been patients at the SBCHC clinic for many years. Dr. Saxena stands out for correctness and creating a warm and very communicative doctor-patient environment. The doctor listens very attentively and calmly to everything you tell him. Simplicity in communication, diagnosis, and continuous patient condition monitoring make this doctor stand out from the rest.”

“I feel that it is a well-oiled machine, with Dr. Brout at South Boston. I just can't say enough good things! They know why I am there without a computer, since everybody knows what is going on with me, all staff. Everybody is on the same page, for a level of healthcare I had never experienced.”

“I liked that they were attentive and fast. They gave me the support I needed and were empathetic and organized. I went to a lot of departments, and all of the staff was this way.”

“The staff in the lab, Verinta or "V," is amazing. My son was literally giddy with delight at her joking and playfulness. He was actually so happy with her, he didn't react to the blood draw, but then cried outside a tiny bit with a delayed reaction like "hey, wait, that hurt." She is an absolutely phenomenal addition to the phlebotomy team! Overall, a great experience.”

“Dr. Kane always asks me if I understand everything and whether or not I need further clarification... I really appreciate him explaining everything so in depth.”

“There’s an emphasis on education here. Dr. Chiakpo and Marianna (a nurse in training) provided a lot of background concerning my issue and even brought in diagrams, which I greatly appreciated, since I’m a visual learner. They both gave me space to ask questions on everything. I really appreciated the time they spent with me.”
