MassHealth Members
Once approved for Medicaid (referred to as "MassHealth" in Massachusetts), you may be eligible to select a MassHealth health plan. Choosing the right plan for you and your family depends on your location and where you receive primary and specialty care.
WellSense Community Alliance (formerly BMC HealthNet Community Alliance) is the MassHealth plan accepted at South Boston Community Health Center (SBCHC).
Most plans require you to have a designated Primary Care Provider (PCP). To ensure your SBCHC visit is covered by insurance, you must select a South Boston Community Health Center provider as your PCP prior to your appointment. To select or change your PCP, you can:
- Log in to your MassHealth Portal
- Contact MassHealth Customer Service at 1-800-841-2900, or
- Book an appointment with our Financial Counseling department at (617) 269-7500 for assistance with updating your PCP assignment.
For a list of SBCHC primary care providers, visit our Providers page.

For those choosing not to apply for health insurance:
- Out-of-pocket payments can be made at the time of registration.
- Patients are required to sign a Financial Responsibility Form to acknowledge responsibility for any additional charges incurred during their visit.
At South Boston Community Health Center, we truly believe in eliminating barriers to care. If for some reason you are not eligible for any of the coverage plans listed on our Accepted Insurance Carriers page, please schedule an appointment with Financial Counseling to discuss other options, including discounts on SBCHC-provided services.
Under-Insured
Patients with private or employee-sponsored insurance plans wishing to apply for a secondary coverage through the state can also book an appointment with Financial Counseling. Our Certified Application Counselors can walk you through an online application for additional coverage that could help with your current copayments.
