Insurance Verification Coordinator

Job Summary

The Insurance Verification Coordinator is responsible for verifying patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage for health center appointments. This role works closely with front desk and Billing department staff to reduce errors and prevent claim denials. The coordinator communicates with patients via phone and MyChart to resolve insurance discrepancies prior to their appointments, ensuring maximum coverage and a smooth visit experience. This position also provides support to the registration desk as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Bilingual communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Knowledge of insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, Health Connector Plans, and employer-sponsored insurance

Representative Job Duties

• Perform insurance verification using the electronic health record (EHR) system, online payer portals, and other designated resources.
• Ensure complete accuracy of patient insurance information prior to claim submission.
• Contact patients in advance of their appointments to resolve any discrepancies related to insurance coverage or demographic information.
• Inform patients of any referral requirements for urgent care or other services.
• Collaborate closely with the Billing department to support a smooth and efficient revenue cycle.
• Prepare and monitor the processing of forms related to plan changes and primary care provider (PCP) assignments.
• Provide assistance to registration desks as needed to ensure effective front-end operations.
